Happy Pi Day: top ten uses of Pi

Today is March 14, Pi Day, celebrating the mysterious ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter.  The number is irrational, so there is no end to its number of digits.  Go to 3.141592653589793238462643383279502884197169399375105820974944592.com (or here) for Pi to a million digits.  Or just listen to this Pi rap.

In celebration of Pi Day, here are ten uses of Pi having nothing to do with math:

10. As the title of a movie.

  1. As a college cheer at MIT.

  2. As the basis for a book of poetry and stories.

  3. As allegedly inaccurate lyrics to a Kate Bush song.

  4. As decorations on t-shirts, buttons, mugs, clocks, jewelry, and plushies.

  5. As a Facebook group.

  6. As a rap song and violin piece.

  7. As the name of a dog and a cat.

  8. As the name of a pizza place, of course!

  9. And the winner — a Pi pie!
